Warmly Welcomed, The Last of Us Series is Ready to Continue to Season Two

The Last of Us series is certain to continue its story into a second season. This news was confirmed by HBO as the television network that is broadcasting The Last of Us, quoting a Variety report which was broadcast on Friday, January 27, 2023, local time.

"Now we're excited to be doing it again with season two! To the team at Naughty Dog & PlayStation, our thanks," said executive producer Neil Druckmann, who was also a co-creator of the original video game.
The Last of Us series is based on the video game of the same name that was first released in 2013. The announcement of the series' season renewal came just after two episodes of the first season aired on HBO and HBO Max.

According to Variety, the move to renew the series isn't too surprising considering The Last of Us received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. This was shown in strong reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, even as its second episode attracted 5.7 million viewers in the United States.
"After delivering this unforgettable first season, I couldn't wait to see this team shine again in season two," said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of programming for HBO drama series and films.

The cost of producing The Last of Us series is reportedly higher than most of the seasons of Game of Thrones. The series has been called the largest television production in Canadian history. "This is a much bigger scale," said Craig Mazin, co-creator of The Last of Us series.

The Last of Us follows survivors trying to survive after the emergence of a "zombie fungus" infection that triggers a global pandemic. The series stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the main roles. A number of other stars include Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, and Nico Parker, to Indonesian actress Christine Hakim who plays a mycology professor.
