Lewis Hamilton reportedly will not retire and leave Mercedes in the Formula 1 competition this season. The racer confirmed that he would still continue to compete in the upcoming 2023 F1.
This news was delivered directly by the team boss of the Mercedes factory, Toto Wolff. He himself explained that Hamilton would continue his career as a driver for his team after this Formula 1 season ended.
Toto said he had met Hamilton and there was no talk of resigning. Even the British racer wants to have a career for the next five years.
"Just last week we sat down and he (Lewis Hamilton) said: 'I still have five years in me, how do you see it?'," said Toto Wolff as quoted by Tempo. co from the Speedweek website today, Friday, 28 October 2022.
Hamilton himself currently still has a contract with Mercedes until the end of the 2023 season. Mercedes could give Hamilton a contract extension for the next five years. Because Toto doesn't care about age. Hamilton himself is currently 37 years old.
“If you look at where Fernando is at 41, he is still doing very well. If you look at American rugby star Tom Brady, who I look up to, he's 45 years old and he's on the pitch," said Toto.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton himself announced to the public before Formula 1 Mexico that he would get a new contract. However, it is not explained in detail how long the contract will last.
"There will be a new contract. We will sit down and discuss this in the coming months. I want to keep racing. I've been doing this for 30 years now and I don't feel like I should stop," said Hamilton.
“Of course, I can hang up my helmet now because I have so many other plans. But I'm still here because I love driving for this team."
